The construction company Estradas do Douro was founded in 2008 by one of the current project mentors, Fernando Cardoso, who, with extensive experience in the civil construction sector both nationally and internationally, revived an old project that began in 1998 within a company specializing in infrastructure and construction.

Headquartered in Cinfães do Douro, this company has stood out in numerous subcontracted projects. Notably, they worked on the access roads to Estádio do Dragão, including the construction of sanitation, rainwater drainage, and paving infrastructures. Additionally, they completed water supply and sanitation infrastructures along the N222 route in Castelo de Paiva, covering over 19 km of pipeline. At Sá Carneiro Airport, they executed rainwater drainage infrastructures, among other tasks.

Simultaneously, they embarked on large-scale projects in Austria, such as the construction of the Gasometer in Vienna and the Control Tower of Vienna International Airport, specializing in formwork and concrete. In England, they built foundations for the shafts at the Corus Sunthorpe refinery, and in Spain, they initiated various projects in the fields of metal structures and construction.

In 2009, Fernando Cardoso took full ownership of the project, renaming it Construtora Estradas do Douro, inspired by the green slopes of the Douro River and the company's specialization in infrastructure and paving.

New projects emerged nationally, partnering with companies such as Ernesto Alves Pinto, where they installed 8 km of sanitation pipelines in Montemor-o-Velho. With Mota Engil, in Carrazeda de Ansiães, they executed 10 km of SOS technical channels, hydraulic crossings, rainwater drainage, and electrical infrastructures. With Patrícios SA, they demolished and rebuilt schools in Beja and Oeiras as part of the Parque Escolar program and constructed sanitation infrastructures in Vila da Feira. With Zagope, Marques, and Mota Engil, they executed 19 km of infrastructure and other works on the road linking Praia da Vitória to Angra do Heroísmo in the Azores.

Internationally, the company continues to develop building projects in concrete, currently recognized in this field and mentioned in various Austrian publications for the quality of its work and adherence to deadlines.

In recent years, in response to the construction sector crisis, the administration decided to enter the public works domain in Portugal, strengthening its technical teams and investing in equipment to enhance service quality.

In 2014, Ricardo Cardoso joined the project initiated by his father, and currently oversees the administration of the various national companies that make up Construtora Estradas do Douro. Together, they now manage projects both nationally and internationally, in countries such as Austria, France, Martinique, and England.

Currently, CED 3 Lda is certified for Quality according to ISO 9001:2015.
